The Prime Minister dedicated the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor to the nation by inaugurating the remaining sections of the Regional Rapid Transit System.

These include the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21-km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. The corridor is expected to make daily commuting faster and more reliable for thousands of passengers.

India’s fastest metro begins service in Meerut

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram, which will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains.

This integrated model - a first in India allows high-speed intercity trains and metro services to run on shared tracks. The metro is expected to cover the entire stretch in around 30 minutes, including all scheduled stops, improving intra-city travel within Meerut.

Multi-modal hub to boost connectivity

Sarai Kale Khan station, the originating point of the corridor, has been developed as a major multi-modal transport hub.

The station will provide seamless connectivity with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and Ring Road. Officials said this integration will make long-distance and daily travel easier for commuters across the National Capital Region.

Four stations were commissioned during the inauguration - Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram in Meerut.

Projects worth Rs 12,930 crore launched

Along with the transport projects, the Prime Minister inaugurated and dedicated multiple development and public welfare projects worth around Rs 12,930 crore in Meerut and surrounding regions.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the projects would add a new “golden chapter” to Uttar Pradesh’s development journey and strengthen modern connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh.

He said the integrated transport system would set a new benchmark for urban and regional mobility in the country.

Focus on faster and cleaner urban transport

Officials said the integrated Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro system is expected to reduce road congestion and lower vehicular emissions by encouraging more people to shift to public transport.

The project is part of the government’s broader push to modernise urban transport and improve ease of living through efficient and sustainable mobility systems.
