Delhi AQI improves slightly but most areas remain in ‘very poor’ zone—Latest measures and weather outlook

Delhi’s air quality has shown slight improvement, drawing crowds back to India Gate and Kartavya Path. However, several areas including Aya Nagar, IGI Airport, and Najafgarh remain in the ‘very poor’ category.

Delhi’s air quality is showing signs of improvement, with the AQI gradually dropping. Crowds have returned to India Gate and Kartavya Path, as locals and tourists enjoy the fresher air, residents reported that breathing has become easier, temperatures are cooling, and the atmosphere feels cleaner.

Despite the improvement in some areas, air quality remains poor in several parts of the city. Aya Nagar, IGI Airport, JLN Stadium, Lodhi Road, DTU, and Najafgarh continue to report poor AQI levels, while certain other locations are seeing moderate air quality, highlighting a mixed picture across the capital region.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in Delhi-NCR are expected to decline gradually over the next few days. In Delhi, Safdarjung, the maximum temperature is likely to rise from around 26 degree Celsius on November 7, 27 to 28 degree Celsius from November 8 to 12 and then again falling to 26 degrees Celsius by November 13, while the minimum temperature may fall from 13-11 degrees Celsius.

Whereas, in Noida the maximum temperature is likely to remain constant from 27 degree Celsius on November 7 to 27 degree Celsius on November 12, while the minimum temperature may fall from 14 degree Celsius to 13 degree Celsius. It is expected that fog or mist would occur in early morning these days.

The combination of lower night temperatures and morning fog or mist is likely to trap pollutants closer to the ground, further aggravating the smog situation.

Government measures to solve air pollution in Delhi

  • A GRAP Stage II has been implemented for the area.
  • New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has increased parking fees in the entire city two times.
  • Commercial goods vehicles that do not meet the BS-VI emission standard will not be allowed to enter Delhi, started from November 1.
  • The Delhi government has carried out two rounds of cloud-seeding operations aimed at improving air quality.
  • Authorities advised residents to take precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities.
