The Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government on Friday announced special, shorter working hours for government offices in the national capital in light of the evolving air pollution situation in the city. The new timings will be in effect from November 15 to February 15.

The Delhi government has announced the working hours of 10 am to 6:30 pm for the office in the city during the three-month period.

For Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices, a new timing of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm will be in force during this period.

Normally, the following timings are applicable in the city:

  • Delhi government offices: From 9:30 am to 6:00 pm
  • MCD offices: From 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

The decision has been taken in view of the rapid increase in air pollution in the city.

Government measures to solve air pollution in Delhi

A GRAP Stage II has been implemented for the area. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has increased parking fees in the entire city by two times. Commercial goods vehicles that do not meet the BS-VI emission standard will not be allowed to enter Delhi, starting from November 1.

The Delhi government has carried out two rounds of cloud-seeding operations aimed at improving air quality. Authorities advised residents to take precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities.
