Tripura Dearness Allowance Hike, Dearness Relief Hike, DA, DR: After announcing the state budget for the next financial year, Tripura on Friday announced an increase in the dearness allowance (DA) as well as dearness relief (DR) for state government employees and pensioners. Describing the state budget as “inclusive” and “focused on holistic development”, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a 3 per cent raise DA and DR. The move is set to impact more than 1.8 lakh individuals. Dearness allowance and dearness relief are adjustments in the money paid to government staff in tandem with inflationary changes related to the cost of living. Both are similar allowances except while DA is for working staff, DR is for pensioners.

- After the increase, the dearness allowance and dearness relief applicable to state government employees and pensioners will be 33 per cent.
- Chief Minister Saha said that the DA and DR hike would cost the state administration Rs 300 crore.
- The latest hike in the DA and DR is set to take effect from April 1, 2025.
- The decision is aimed at reducing the gap in allowances received by state and Union government employees, said the CM.
- Tripura has an estimated more than 1 lakh state government employees and more than 80,000 pensioners.

- No new taxes were introduced in the 2025 Tripura budget, with an estimated deficit of almost Rs 430 crore.
- The budget earmarked capital expenditure to the tune of Rs 7,903 crore with an aim to boost infrastructure and promote job-creation in the state.
- The state government promised the establishment of specialised competitive examination coaching centres in Agarwala, Udaipur and Ambassa aimed at empowering the youth.
- With a budgetary outlay of Rs 2 crore, it also proposed to set up a “Bharat Mata Canteen cum Night Shelter” in Agartala to provide shelter to visitors to the state capital.
