Indian Railways train delays is a common phenomenon. It can be any numbers of hours. Passengers often get frustrated by trains not running according to schedules. To do away with this, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has come up with an idea. The Railway minister has warned zonal heads of various divisions of the Indian Railways that deviation from the schedule will cost officials of the national transporter their promotions.
Delays in train services will defer their appraisal proportionately, the minister waned. The railway officials have been given a month's time to improve punctuality. The Railway minister's wrath came after the national transporter reported multi-year dismal performance this year.
According to a PTI report, minister called out every zonal head individually and asked them to explain the reason for poor punctuality figures. Most of the trains on Indian Railways network were running late due to maintenance work, he was told. Nearly 30 per cent trains were running late on the railway network in 2017-18 finnancial year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too let his displeasure be known about train delays last month.
In a different development, the Northern Railways will dig bore-well afresh to counter water crisis. Piyush Goyal also flagged off Humsafar Jodhpur Bandra Express in Rajasthan.
