Bihar Election Results 2025: As the results of the Bihar Assembly started pouring in, Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) was seen inching towards a big victory, leading in 21 out of the 29 seats that his party contested, as per the latest trends on the Election Commission website.
Notably, Chirag Paswan's party had secured a massive 100 per cent strike in last year's Lok Sabha elections in which it bagged all six seats it contested. Chirag Paswan had contested alone during the Bihar Assembly elections in 2020 following disagreements over the seat-sharing.
Though it bagged only a single seat out of 137 that it contested, it cut down CM Nitish Kumar's JD(U) vote bank, dragging it from 71 seats in 2015 to just 43. His party is leading in Rajaoli, Bodh Gaya, Gobindpur, Sherghati, Obra, Dehri, Nathnagar, Parbatta and a few others.
In the early trends of the ECI, the BJP in the Bihar Assembly Elections is emerging as the largest party, leading in 87 seats out of 243, followed by JD(U) with 76 seats. The NDA, which is leading in 189 seats, is followed by the Mahagathbandhan in 50.
Counting of votes on all 243 Assembly seats started at 8 am with the scrutiny of postal ballots, followed by the counting of EVM votes at 8:30 am, amidst multi-tier security arrangements that are in place across the state.
Counting operations are being presided over by 243 Returning Officers and an equal number of Counting Observers appointed by the Election Commission.
More than 18,000 counting agents of different candidates are present at the centres to oversee the process closely.
Entry into the counting centres has been strictly restricted to those having valid passes, and the use of mobile phones inside the counting halls has been completely prohibited.
In the outgoing Assembly, the NDA has 131 seats comprising BJP's 80, JD(U)'s 45, four of HAM(S) and two Independents. The Opposition bloc has 111 seats with the RJD having 77, Congress 19, CPI(ML) 11, CPI(M) two and CPI two.
