Bihar CM 2025: Janata Dal (United) head Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the remarkable 10th time on Thursday. The oath-taking ceremony is taking place at Patna's historical Gandhi Maidan, which has been the venue for his previous inaugurations in 2005, 2010, and 2015.

Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other key figures from the NDA are attending the Bihar CM's swearing-in ceremony. Among BJP leaders, Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Mangal Pandey, Nitin Nabin, and Ramkripal Yadav have been sworn in as ministers in the government of Nitish Kumar.

Prem Kumar will likely be the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Prem Kumar has won the seat of Gaya for the seventh time, representing the BJP.

On Wednesday, Nitish Kumar was first chosen as the head of the JD (U) Legislature Party at a meeting with the new MLAs held at his official residence in Patna. Also, he was unanimously chosen as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Legislature Party before the establishment of a new government under his jurisdiction in the state today.

During the meeting at the state BJP headquarters, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were also chosen as the leader and deputy leader of the BJP Legislature Party, respectively.

Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was appointed as the central observer for the election of the Legislature Party Leader in Bihar, made the proposal of both leaders, and the other MLAs agreed on that.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections were touted as the acid test for Nitish Kumar, who has been able to dictate the politics of Bihar around him in every election throughout the last two decades.

The 74-year-old Nitish Kumar has been in the Chief Minister's position since November 2005, apart from a brief nine-month gap in 2014-15.

NDA's landslide victory in Bihar Election 2025

The NDA's sweeping victory in the Bihar assembly elections of 2025 was a landmark event, as they captured 202 seats out of 243 in total, and the coalition of parties led by Mahagathbandhan only got 35 seats. This ruling coalition got three-fourths of the votes in the Bihar Assembly of 243 members, and it was the second time that the NDA had won more than 200 seats in the state elections. The same happened in 2010 when it won 206 seats.

The NDA alliance comprised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which took 89 seats, the Janata Dal (United), which got 85, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJPRV), which scored 19, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS), which bagged five, and the Rashtriya Lok Morch, which obtained four seats.

The opposition's biggest winner, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), could only manage to win 25 seats while the Indian National Congress got six, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) [CPI(ML)(L)] and the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) got two and one respectively, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] got one seat as well.

The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) registered a win of five seats, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) could only secure one.

The Bihar assembly elections, held on November 6 and 11 in two rounds, registered a record 67.13 per cent voter turnout, which is the highest since 1951, and the women's participation was even higher than the men's-71.6 per cent against 62.8 per cent.
