New Delhi Railway Station update: Around 30 trains, including key Shatabdi and Humsafar services, may soon operate from other stations as redevelopment work gathers pace at New Delhi Railway Station. The proposed shift is aimed at easing congestion and managing passenger flow during the construction phase. The plan, prepared by Indian Railways, is expected to impact a large number of daily travellers. Once approved, several major trains will run from terminals such as Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar instead of New Delhi.
A major redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station is now underway, with plans to transform it into a modern, world-class transit hub. The upgrade includes new station buildings, improved platforms, better passenger amenities, and enhanced connectivity.
The project is being executed by the Rail Land Development Authority under Indian Railways and is expected to take around four years.
During this period, operating all trains from the same station would create severe crowding and operational bottlenecks. To avoid this, railway officials have proposed shifting nearly 30 trains to other stations across Delhi.
