Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the state government will establish a task force and develop a "Quantum Valley," a world-class quantum computing hub, in line with the National Quantum Mission.
On Monday, taking to X, Naidu said quantum technology is set to drive revolutionary advancements across various sectors. "Just as we led the Information Technology revolution in the 1990s, we want Andhra Pradesh to lead advancements in Quantum Technology, securing a first-mover advantage in this transformative field," he said, adding, "Taking a step in that direction, we are setting up a task force and working on a plan to create a ‘Quantum Valley,’ a world-class quantum computing hub in Andhra Pradesh that is in line with the National Quantum Mission."
Collaboration with industry leaders
The initiative will be developed in collaboration with IIT Madras, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and IBM to position Andhra Pradesh as a national hub for quantum computing research. The government aims to attract top-tier talent and global investments to the state.
To drive this effort, the state organized a key meeting with industry leaders and experts, including Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, L&T Chairman and Managing Director S.N. Subrahmanyan, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Abhay Karandikar, and J.B.V. Reddy, head of the Quantum Technology Centre at DST. Other notable attendees included IIT-Tirupati Director Satyanarayana Kalidindi, IIT Madras Director Kamakoti, IBM Research India Director Amith Singhee, and Venkat Subramaniam from IBM Quantum India.
Chandrababu Naidu's vision for quantum technology
Naidu emphasised the importance of deep technology and quantum computing in shaping the future. "I went one step ahead and thought about deep technology and quantum computing. (They) should come to Andhra Pradesh. Quantum computing should come to Amaravati," he said.
He further said that discussions were held with stakeholders on how to integrate quantum computing into Amaravati’s technological ecosystem and explore possibilities for research in the field. Naidu underscored that the state’s focus on emerging technologies aligns with its vision to establish itself as a leader in innovation and scientific advancement.
