Indo-Pak Tensions: Drone sightings and military response
The decision by both airlines comes just a day after the AAI allowed the reopening of dozens of airports that were shut amid increasing military alertness in northern India.
According to ANI, citing sources in the Indian Army, drones from Pakistan intruded into the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir late Monday night. The Indian air defence systems responded swiftly, intercepting the drones in a controlled operation.
“There’s nothing to be alarmed about. A very small number of drones were detected and engaged promptly. The situation is calm and fully under control,” Army sources said.
On Monday, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced the reopening of 32 airports in northern and western India for civil flight operations, just days after their temporary closure had been extended until May 15 amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
What travellers should do?
Passengers scheduled to fly to or from the affected locations are advised to:
-Check real-time flight status via airline websites or mobile apps
-Contact airline customer support for rescheduling or refunds
-Stay updated with official advisories on social media platforms
Both Air India and IndiGo have assured that once safety clearances are confirmed, they will resume services in a phased manner. With the India-Pakistan border situation still evolving, the status of flight operations remains fluid. Travellers are advised to remain alert and follow updates from airlines and the Airports Authority of India for the latest developments.
