This year, Delhi Police is using advanced technology to boost security like never before. AI-enabled smart glasses and modern facial recognition systems are being deployed as part of an upgraded security setup for Republic Day 2026.

Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahala said the force is making full use of technology-driven solutions. All CCTV cameras across key locations will be fitted with video analytics and Facial Recognition Systems (FRS). This will help police identify suspects quickly and with better accuracy.

Mahala explained that different types of video analytics will be used to improve monitoring. He also said specially developed cameras and wearable smart glasses are being introduced to support officers on the ground, ANI reported.

How will AI smart glasses be used during the parade?

For the first time, Delhi Police personnel will use AI-enabled wearable smart glasses during the Republic Day parade. Selected officers deployed along the parade route will wear these glasses while on duty.

These smart glasses will help police monitor large crowds, spot suspicious behaviour, and identify potential threats in real time. The wearable technology will improve crowd control operations because it enables faster response times in areas with high population density, which exist throughout Kartavya Path.

The officials anticipate this measure will enhance response times while boosting security effectiveness throughout the celebrations.

Multi-layered security at Kartavya Path

Earlier this week, the New Delhi District Police announced detailed security and facilitation plans for the 77th Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path. A strong, multi-layered security cover has been put in place across the district.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police, New Delhi District, Devesh Mahla, Delhi Police and paramilitary forces are jointly managing the security arrangements. The aim is to ensure a safe and smooth event for dignitaries, participants, and the public.

The entire Kartavya Path area is under round-the-clock watch through a wide network of CCTV cameras linked with advanced facial recognition technology. These systems allow continuous monitoring of the area before and during the event.

Anti-drone units, snipers, and verification drives

Security officials have deployed their specialised anti-drone and sniper units in high-rise buildings overlooking Kartavya Path. The teams conduct airspace monitoring together with area surveillance to protect against aerial threats.

New Delhi District Police conducts extensive verification drives to implement their preventive security measures. The district carries out security assessments by checking hotels, guest houses, and residential tenants, together with domestic workers.

Delhi Police will use their permanent presence, combined with advanced technological systems and their strict security measures, to protect the 2026 Republic Day celebrations.
