Aadhaar alert! Updating your 12-digit biometric? Note! A verifier can lend address 5 times a year, says UIDAI
The UIDAI has now revealed via tweet, that a verifier can lend or send address only once a month and 5 times a year.
In order to help out citizens facing certain issues, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is now allowing Aadhaar cardholders to change or update their new address by submitting an address validation letter instead of valid address proof of residence. To get an address validation letter, the Aadhaar cardholder needs to get consent from an address lender or verifier who would allow their Aadhaar-registered address to be used by the resident.
However, the UIDAI has now guided via tweet, a verifier can lend or send address only once a month and 5 times a year.
UIDAI via twitter account said, "One Aadhaar holder can act as 'Verifier' for one resident per month and upto five times in one year."

This means that, if you are verifying address for other Aadhaar card holders, you are allowed to do this process only five times in a year.
The address verifier or lender could be a family member, relative, friend or landlord at the place where you are residing presently.
After having the consent of an address verifier, you need to go to the UIDAI portal for generation of an address validation letter after logging in with the help of your Aadhaar number. The letter, including a secret code, will be sent to the verifier's address.
The verifier will receive the address validation letter by post. Now the user shall log in again and provide the secret code received by clicking on ‘proceed to update address' in the UIDAI portal.
Also updating your Aadhar, either through online mode or by post, does not include any cost.
Once your address is changed, you can now download the e-Aadhaar card online. Note that only address can be changed online.
While for all other changes in the biometric data or other demographic data like name, gender, relation, mobile, date of birth, and email, the person is required to visit UIDAI’s enrollment or update centre.
