JEE Main exam eligibility:  In big news for the students of IIT JEE, Union education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has waived off 75 per cent eligibility criteria. The minister made this announcement from his official Twitter handle. This comes after the education minister on Monday had said that competitive exams such as JEE Main 2021, held as an engineering entrance test, and medical entrance test NEET 2021 will be held on the basis of a reduced syllabus.

Taking to Twitter to announce the big news, the education minister tweeted, " Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE(Advanced) and in line with the decision taken for the last academic year, it has been decided to waive off the 75% marks (in class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the next academic year 2021-2022."

This was done in respect of NITs, IIITs, SPAs and other CFTIs, whose admissions are based on JEE (Main), Pokhriyal said.

Meanwhile, in another development the Ministry of Education on Tuesday announced that the syllabus of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the National Eligibility-cum- Entrance Test (NEET) would remain unchanged for 2021, reported IANS.
"The syllabus for JEE Main 2021 will remain the same as the previous year. But students will be given a choice to answer 75 questions (25 questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) out of 90 questions (30 questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)," Education Ministry told IANS.

In JEE Main 2020, the Education Ministry said there were 75 questions all of which have to be answered by the candidates.

The exact pattern for the NEET (Undergraduate) 2021 is yet to be announced.

However, in view of the reduction of syllabus by some education boards across the country, the NEET (UG) 2021 question paper would also have options on the lines of the JEE (Main).
