The repeated news of the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country and the closure of schools and other educational institutions in various states and union territories is certainly reminiscent of the initial days of the pandemic in the country.
When the coronavirus pandemic first struck in the country last year, schools and other educational institutions across the country were closed and the students shifted to the digital platform for online classes. As situation seemed to be normalised, the respective state governments reopened the schools. However, the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has compelled the respective authorities to close schools and other educational institutions once again.
Various other states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and other have also closed their schools to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CBSE class 10 class 12 board exam candidates are seriously concerned about this situation. For the past two days, the hashtag "cancelboardexams2021" has been trending on Twitter. More than one lakh students of classes 10 and 12 have signed petitions urging the government to either cancel board exams scheduled to be held in May or conduct them in online mode. However, both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have said that adequate safety arrangements are being made for students and all COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the exams. The CBSE board written exams are scheduled to start from May 4, 2021 and will continue till June 14, 2021.
On Tuesday, the Delhi government has also imposed night curfew in the state till April 30, from 10 PM to 5 AM in order to contain the spread of the pandemic.
