Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday, December 7, inaugurated 125 new infrastructure projects built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), marking a comprehensive enhancement of India’s border infrastructure network. The ceremony was held at the newly completed Shyok Tunnel in Ladakh, a critical link on a route prone to avalanches and landslides.

The road projects include 02 in Jammu & Kashmir, 08 in Ladakh, 04 in Rajasthan, 10 in Arunachal Pradesh, 02 in Sikkim, 01 in West Bengal and 01 in Mizoram, significantly improving connectivity in some of the most challenging terrains of the country, said the official release. The centrepiece of Sunday’s inauguration was the 920-metre cut-and-cover Shyok Tunnel, which is expected to provide uninterrupted movement on a key axis in eastern Ladakh. Another notable addition was a 3D-printed Habitat and Administration Facility, signalling the Defence Ministry’s push towards faster, technology-driven construction in difficult locations.
Addressing the gathering, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the Border Roads Organisation for its exceptional contribution to strengthening India’s border infrastructure and strategic preparedness. BRO has been at the forefront of nation-building by connecting the most remote and challenging regions of the country."
"Emphasising the Government’s unwavering commitment to national security and development, leads to timely completion of these strategically significant projects which will greatly enhance operational mobility of the Armed Forces, improve logistics and accelerate socio-economic development in border areas. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri also commended the dedication, courage and professionalism of BRO personnel to work in extreme terrain and harsh climatic conditions in service of the Nation," he added.
BRO Director General Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan said the organisation has increasingly become the preferred implementing agency for key ministries such as Home Affairs, External Affairs, and Road Transport and Highways. He credited the workforce—from officers to casual labourers—for sustaining BRO’s reputation for delivering in the toughest conditions.
He added that the agency’s growing operational capacity has allowed it to take on a wider range of strategic projects, particularly in border regions where rapid infrastructure development is becoming increasingly vital.
Reaffirming its motto “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” (Everything is achievable through hard work), the BRO said it remains committed to strengthening strategic connectivity and supporting socio-economic growth in some of India’s most isolated regions.
