LPG, LPG Rate, LPG Cylinder Price (March 2026): Days after commercial LPG prices were raised across the country, now state-run oil marketing companies OMCs IOCL, BPCL and HPCL have raised even domestic cooking gas LPG cylinder prices. This marks the first such hike in about 11 months. The revision, say analysts, reflects emerging pressure from the Middle East crisis and global energy markets.
The LPG rate hike comes at a time when Israel alongside the US continue to engage against Iran in a conflict that began after joint strikes by the US and Israel against Tehran killed Iran's Supreme Leader. Iran has been targeting several nations in the Middle East since, including those that host American military bases.
With the latest revision, which took effect on Saturday, March 7, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG refill -- meant for use in households -- has risen to Rs 913 from Rs 853 per unit in the national capital. Also, the commercial cooking gas refill -- for use by businesses like restaurants and industrial workshops -- stands raised by Rs 114.5 to Rs 1,768.5 per unit in New Delhi.
The news signals the first visible impact of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East crisis on Indian energy consumers. The last revision, which took effect on March 1, led to commercial LPG rate rising by Rs 28 in the national capital while the domestic price was left unchanged.
With the latest hike, the price of 19 kg LPG refills, in the national capital, has been raised by Rs 302.5 so far this year, data shows.
| Metro | Domestic LPG Price (Rs / 14.2 kg cylinder) | Commercial LPG Price (Rs / 19 kg cylinder) |
| Delhi | 913 | 1883 |
| Kolkata | 939 | 1990 |
| Mumbai | 912.5 | 1835 |
| Chennai | 928.5 | 2043.5 |
According to government sources, the hike is based on the Saudi Contract Price, which has increased significantly over the past few months.
Saudi Contract Price is an international benchmark price that determines the import costs of LPG cargoes.
The government subsidy on cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme remains unchanged at Rs 300 per cylinder, said one of the official sources.
Currently, state-run oil marketing companies review LPG prices every month. These companies -- Indian Oil Corp Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) -- review domestic rates constantly and implement any revisions intermittently to align them with global benchmarks and forex rates.
LPG is sold in 19 kg cylinders to commercial entities, and in 14.2 kg refills to households.
