West Asia Crisis: PM Modi chairs meeting with CMs to review preparedness

PM Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to review preparedness in light of emerging situation in West Asia, expressing confidence that the nation will successfully overcome the situation working together as “Team India". Urging states and UTs to ensure smooth functioning of supply chains and take strict measures against hoarding and profiteering, the PM stresses on the need for advance planning in the agriculture sector, particularly in monitoring fertiliser storage and distribution. He also stressed that his administration’s priorities are to maintain economic and trade stability, ensure energy security, safeguard the interests of citizens, and strengthen industry and supply chains.

His remarks came after the Centre reiterated its call to the general public not to panic believing rumours about fuel shortages, assuring citizens of adequate supplies of petrol, diesel and LPG. Officials also maintained that supplies to householders remain the government's top priority.

The PM emphasised the need for robust coordination mechanisms at all levels to enable quick response to evolving situations. Cautioning the public against misinformation and rumours, the prime minister emphasises dissemination of accurate and credible information.

Appreciating the steps taken by the central government under PM Modi's leadership, chief ministers welcomed the decisions to reduce excise duty on fuel amid global uncertainties and increase in commercial LPG allocation to states. They also exuded confidence that situation remains stable, with adequate availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG in their respective states and UTs.

The prime minister appreciated suggestions shared by the CMs, noting that these inputs would be instrumental in effectively managing the evolving situation. He also emphasised the need for vigilance, preparedness, and coordinated action to address the challenges ahead.
