U.S. Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker has begun a five-day official visit to India from December 7 to 11. Her trip aims to strengthen the fast-growing partnership between the United States and India, with a clear focus on security, trade, technology, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Hooker will spend the first part of her visit in New Delhi, where she will meet senior Indian officials and take part in the Foreign Office Consultations with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

The conversations are planned to go through numerous important topics for both countries. Among them are the matters of security in the region, collaboration in the economic sector, and the common objectives in the Indo-Pacific area which is regarded as a region of major importance for peace, free trade, and stability.

Officials say the visit supports President Donald Trump’s goal of shaping a stronger U.S.–India relationship. The United States has repeatedly said that the Indo-Pacific should remain a free and open region, and both countries are working closely to safeguard that vision. The talks in New Delhi are expected to deepen trust and expand cooperation between the two strategic partners.

Focus on AI, space and advanced technology in Bengaluru

After her visit to New Delhi, Hooker will travel to Bengaluru which India’s major hub for science and innovation. She will visit the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), where discussions on space research, satellite technology, and future missions that could involve joint work will be discussed.

Hooker will also meet leaders from India’s space, energy, and technology sectors. The USA intends to foster creativity, create better research collaborations, and take advantage of new groundbreaking developments in artificial intelligence, next-gen tech and pollution-free energy sources.

Separate U.S. delegation for trade talks

A separate U.S. team will visit India from December 10 to 12 for talks on the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). A BTA becomes active immediately once both sides agree to its terms, while an FTA (Free Trade Agreement) gives tariff cuts step by step.
Officials view these talks as part of continued efforts toward a broader trade deal.
