Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Phase 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), built at a cost of around Rs. 19,650 crores during his two-day state visit from October 8-9. Along with the airport inauguration, PM Modi will also launch and dedicate several key projects in Mumbai. At the invitation of PM Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of UK, Keir Starmer will also visit site and it will be his first official visit to India.

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project in detail

NMIA is India's largest Greenfield airport project that is developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and a second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. NMIA will work jointly with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to ease congestion and elevate Mumbai into the league of global multi-airport systems.

  • Covers 1160 hectares of area that can handle 90 million passenger per year and process 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo.
  • Automated People Mover (APM) system to connect 4 passenger terminals, enable smooth inter-terminal transfers.

Inauguration of Mumbai Metro Line-3

PM Modi will inaugurate Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line), stretch from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade that is around 33.5 km long with 27 stations. The construction's total cost is over Rs 37,270 crore, marking a major milestone in the city’s urban transport transformation. Benefits

Inauguration of STEP

Prime Minister will inaugurate the Short- Term Employability Program (STEP), an initiative by the Department of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation in Maharashtra.

  • Rolled out across 400 Government ITIs and 150 Government Technical High Schools.
  • Aims to align skill development with industry requirements.
  • Enhance employability of youth.
  • 2,500 new training batches to be established.

As per official records, PM Modi and UK PM Keir Starmer will discuss the opportunities under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and participate in the 6th Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2025 in Mumbai. The Fest bring together innovators, policymakers, central bankers, regulators, investors, academicians, and industry leaders from around the world. The GFF, themed "Empowering Finance for a Better World," is expected to attract 100,000 participants from 75 countries, making it one of the world’s largest fintech gatherings. The event will feature 7,500 companies, 800 speakers, and 400 exhibitors, showcasing the latest fintech advancements and fostering global partnerships.
