Hotel boom in the making? How analysts view ICC T20 WC, AI Summit events in 2026

The increase in ARR is attributed to higher bookings, wedding season demand, and limited room availability. The growth is being driven by domestic travel, premium leisure segments, and corporate demand, particularly in popular destinations such as Goa, Kerala, and Rajasthan, where ARR growth has been the fastest. In addition, key match cities are expected to see further increases in both ARR and occupancy.

After a slow start to the year in December and January, hotel rates in India are showing a strong recovery, with Average Room Rates (ARRs) in major cities now reaching post-COVID highs.

Factors driving ARR growth

Analysts attribute the increase in ARR to higher bookings, wedding season demand, and limited room availability. The growth is being driven by domestic travel, premium leisure segments, and corporate demand, particularly in popular destinations such as Goa, Kerala, and Rajasthan, where ARR growth has been the fastest.

ARR and RevPAR outlook for 2026

In addition, key match cities are expected to see further increases in both ARR and occupancy, with ARR projected to grow by 6 per cent in 2026, potentially reaching Rs 9,400 to Rs 9,700. Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) is expected to rise to Rs 6,300 to Rs 6,800.

Role of MICE segment

The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) segment has also contributed to the recovery, supported by venues like the World Convention Centre, Yashobhoomi, and Bharat Mandapam. The hotel industry adopts AI-driven dynamic pricing systems because these systems help hotels increase their revenue while maintaining price stability through times of rising customer demand.

Strategic expansion and guest experience

Looking ahead, strategic segment expansion and enhanced guest experiences are expected to sustain growth through 2026 and beyond.

Upcoming major events driving demand

1) ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled from February 7 to March 8, 2026, will create a substantial increase in hotel needs throughout India. The tournament, which India and Sri Lanka will co-host, stands as one of cricket's most important competitions and is expected to attract thousands of domestic and international fans, teams and media personnel and officials to the host cities.

The matches will occur at eight different locations, which include five Indian sites and three Sri Lankan sites that contain two venues in Colombo. The tournament will take place in India at five major stadiums, which include Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, Kolkata's Eden Gardens, Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium and Chennai's M A Chidambaram Stadium.

A total of 55 matches are scheduled across the T20 World Cup, and it is expected to create a surge in demand for hotel rooms in and around host cities.

2) India AI Impact Summit

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 will take place from February 16 to 20, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The summit will host delegates from more than 100 countries who will include 15 Heads of State and Government and more than 100 global CEOs, leading academics and technology experts.

The India AI Impact Summit will mark the fourth edition in a series of global AI summits, following previous events in the UK, South Korea, and France. The summit officials want to achieve their main goal of creating AI technologies that all people can use instead of giving those technologies to advanced economies and large companies.

The Secretary of MeitY, S Krishnan, explained that India wants to develop international AI standards and governance systems, which will help developing countries implement safe and inclusive AI technologies.

These events are anticipated to further support occupancy and ARR growth in key cities, reinforcing the hotel sector’s post-pandemic recovery and signalling a strong year ahead for the Indian hospitality industry.
