GST Data June 2026: Tax collections near Rs 2 lakh crore mark after 13.9% jump; Import tax boosts revenue

India's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 13.9 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,94,812 crore in June, moving closer to the Rs 2 lakh crore milestone, helped by a sharp increase in tax collections from imports.

According to official data released on Wednesday, GST revenue from imports surged 34.6 per cent to Rs 60,038 crore during the month, while gross domestic GST collections increased 6.5 per cent to Rs 1,34,774 crore.

The total gross GST collection stood at Rs 1,94,812 crore in June compared with Rs 1,71,105 crore in the same month last year, reflecting an increase of Rs 23,707 crore.

The latest figures indicate that higher import-related tax collections played a key role in supporting overall GST revenue growth during the month.

Domestic, import collections and refunds

Domestic GST collections, which account for tax generated from transactions within the country, rose by 6.5 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,34,774 crore from Rs 1,26,506 crore in June last year. Import GST collections, however, recorded a much faster growth rate of 34.6 per cent, increasing from Rs 44,600 crore to Rs 60,038 crore.

GST refunds also increased during the month.

Total refunds rose 29.1 per cent year-on-year to Rs 32,436 crore from Rs 25,121 crore a year earlier. Domestic refunds increased 42.9 per cent to Rs 17,767 crore, while export GST refunds processed through ICEGATE rose 15.6 per cent to Rs 14,669 crore.

After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenue stood at Rs 1,62,377 crore in June, up 11.2 per cent from Rs 1,45,984 crore in the corresponding month last year. Net domestic GST revenue increased 2.6 per cent to Rs 1,17,007 crore, while net customs GST revenue jumped 42.2 per cent to Rs 45,370 crore.

April-June GST performance

The data also showed growth in collections across the first quarter of the current financial year.

Gross GST collections during April-June 2026 rose 8.4 per cent year-on-year to Rs 6,31,699 crore from Rs 5,82,542 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Gross domestic GST collections for the three months increased 2.8 per cent to Rs 4,54,427 crore, while gross import GST revenue rose 26.2 per cent to Rs 1,77,273 crore.

After refunds, total net GST revenue during April-June stood at Rs 5,40,218 crore, registering a growth of 7.1 per cent over Rs 5,04,187 crore in the year-ago period. Total refunds during the quarter increased 16.8 per cent to Rs 91,482 crore.

States report mixed GST collection trends

Among the states, Uttar Pradesh recorded one of the strongest performances among major states, with domestic GST collections rising 19 per cent year-on-year to Rs 9,165 crore in June. Gujarat reported a 12 per cent increase to Rs 11,743 crore, Karnataka recorded 10 per cent growth to Rs 12,937 crore, Maharashtra posted a 9 per cent rise to Rs 30,714 crore, while Delhi registered an 8 per cent increase to Rs 5,987 crore.

Assam reported a 17 per cent increase in domestic GST collections, Punjab recorded 14 per cent growth, while Kerala, Telangana and Goa each posted double-digit gains during the month.

Some states see decline

Some states, however, registered a decline in collections. Rajasthan's domestic GST revenue fell 5 per cent year-on-year, Madhya Pradesh declined 5 per cent, Tamil Nadu slipped 2 per cent and Jharkhand recorded a 16 per cent decline during June.

The government said the figures are provisional and may undergo minor revisions after finalisation.
