Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick on Thursday. Both officials engaged in discussions concerning the incoming India-US trade deal and related economic partnership matters.
Goyal took to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to say: "Engaged in very fruitful discussions to expand our trade and economic partnership."
He also wrote: "Engaged in very fruitful discussions to expand our trade and economic partnership."
The meeting comes at a time when India and the US are due to formally sign an interim trade deal between them after months of negotiations. 
The execution of the deal appears to be delayed on account of the US Supreme Court's ruling last week to strike down US President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs under emergency powers. Hours after the Supreme Court order, the Trump 2.0 administration announced a blanket 10 per cent global levy with a 150-day validity on all imports, effective within days, and then announced its intent to raise it to the maximum permissible 15 per cent under the alternative law. However, the 15 per cent duty is yet to be implemented. 
Both India and the US announced an interim trade deal between them in early February, following talks between PM Narendra Modi and Trump.
Key terms under that deal, yet to be formally signed and implemented, include provisions for reduced Indian tariffs on US industrial and agricultural goods and zero levies on American goods.
