Delhi Mahila Samridhi Scheme: On the occasion of International Women's Day 2025, Union Minister J P Nadda on Saturday launched a scheme providing Rs 2,500 per month in financial assistance to eligible women under Mahila Samridhi Yojana, fulfilling the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) key Assembly election promise.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, who referred to the scheme as “Modi ki Guarantee.” A total allocation of Rs 5,100 crore has been approved for implementing the scheme.

This measure is expected to benefit approximately 15 to 20 lakh women between the ages of 18 and 60 from families with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh with a particular emphasis on those falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

According to the draft eligibility criteria, beneficiaries must be residents of Delhi for the past five years and possess a bank account linked to an Aadhaar number.

The registration process will be conducted online, and a multi-level antecedent verification system akin to the Union government's Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programme.

On Wednesday, CM Gupta engaged in a dialogue with women at the Delhi Assembly to gather their perspectives on the financial assistance scheme, as well as issues related to security, sanitation, education, and women's increased participation in governance.

She reaffirmed the BJP government’s commitment to delivering the Rs 2,500 monthly assistance while criticising the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for attempting to exert pressure on the scheme’s timeline.

"We will proceed as per our agenda; they do not need to dictate terms," the CM stated.

CM Gupta emphasised that the objective of public engagement in the Budget formulation process is to work toward the vision of a ‘Viksit Delhi’ through collaborative governance.
