The Prime Minister of Canada visited India, which resulted in both countries establishing stronger ties through their various sectors, including trade and technology. The two nations announced multiple vital agreements, together with new initiatives, which will enhance their collaborative efforts.

Key MoUs and Agreements

1. India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) – Terms of Reference (ToR) The finalised Terms of Reference for CEPA will direct negotiation processes for the comprehensive trade and economic partnership agreement. The CEPA treaty will establish regulations that govern both goods and services trade, together with additional policy domains. The agreement will enhance economic relationships between India and Canada while establishing a target of USD 50 billion in bilateral trade, which both countries aim to achieve by 2030.

2. India-Canada-Australia Trilateral MoU on technology and innovation – This Agreement pertains to the alliance between India, Canada, and Australia in the sphere of emerging technologies and innovations that are being promoted under the ACITI Alliance.

3. Declaration of Intent on Joint Pulse Protein Centre of Excellence at (NIFTEM-K) – The centre will work to enhance food processing methods, together with developing food systems that meet nutritional requirements. The centre will create advanced protein extraction methods, which will develop fortified pulse products to solve nutrient deficiencies.

4. Commercial Contract – Department of Atomic Energy & Cameco, Canada – India established a permanent agreement with Cameco of Canada to obtain uranium supplies for an extended period. The agreement supports India's nuclear energy program expansion, which intends to reach 100 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity by 2047 through the Viksit Bharat initiative.

5. MoU – AICTE & Mitacs, Canada for Globalink Research Internships – The program will provide full funding for 300 Indian students who will participate in 12-week research internships in Canada starting from 2027, which will cover fields of science, engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences.

6. MoU on Critical Minerals Cooperation – India and Canada established a partnership to develop secure supply chains that will safeguard critical mineral resources. The partnership will develop three areas of work, which include investment promotion, project identification and technical research sharing related to mining and processing, and resource-efficient extraction.

7. MoU on Renewable Energy – Both countries will collaborate on renewable energy projects that will use solar, wind, biomass and energy storage technologies. The agreement establishes a framework that will enable both parties to exchange information and best practices while developing their respective capacities.

8. MoU on Cultural cooperation – India and Canada have agreed to promote cultural and knowledge exchanges that will include performance arts, creative industries, emerging technologies, and other forms of performance arts.

  • Canada will join the Global Biofuels Alliance and the International Solar Alliance.

  • The India-Canada CEO Forum will reorganise its structure to increase private-sector involvement.

  • Canada will take part in Bharat Tribes Fest-2026, which will take place in New Delhi from March 17 to March 30

The visit of the Canadian Prime Minister to India marked a milestone in bilateral relations as the two countries established multiple agreements and initiatives, which enabled them to strengthen their economic ties, technological ties, educational ties and cultural ties that would support their long-term partnership development.
