IndiGo, the leading airline of India, has characterized the year 2025 as the hallmark year in its process of getting recognized as a carrier of international nature.
The airline managed to expand its network very fast, introduce intercontinental international flights, get huge passenger growth, and win global awards all in one year. IndiGo has the ability and plan to work on this as it steps into the year 2026.
With its core values being on-time performance, low fares, effortless traveling, good connectivity, and consistent care for safety, IndiGo foresees to end the year 2025 with more than carrying 123 million travelers.
That would be an increase of over 10 million customers compared to 2024, which will definitely gain IndiGo the top spot among the 10 biggest airlines of the world.
The year was, however, went wrong its operational problems. At the start of December 2025, there was a massive disruption at IndiGo that affected a significant number of passengers.
The airline issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and added that they were able to restore the operations quickly.
A very eventful year feature was IndiGo getting to hold the IATA Annual General Meeting in Delhi, thereby welcoming the world over aviation experts and enhancing the prominence of India in the airline sector globally.
Pursuing its international growth plan, IndiGo took up long-haul operations in the year 2025.
No sooner did the airline than it opened the direct flight between India and Manchester and Amsterdam, and later on, it began the trips to Copenhagen and London. In the year, IndiGo increased the number of its international destinations by 10 and the number of its international routes by 30 altogether.
IndiGo partnered with Norse Atlantic Airways to introduce the Boeing 787-9 wide-body aircraft to support these long-haul flights. Hot meals were also offered free of charge on select long-distance international routes to make the journey more comfortable for the passengers.
The proceeder was the addition of the new places: Seychelles, Krabi, Madinah, Fujairah, and Siem Reap. Besides, IndiGo re-established the direct flights between India and China by resuming the service to Guangzhou.
On the domestic front, the company operated the second stage of its network expansion by setting up its base at the newly developed airport in Navi Mumbai and also at the new airports in Purnea and Rewa.
Along with this, it included Hindon, Adampur, Kishangarh, and Bikaner. With this, by the end of 2025, IndiGo's network will have a whopping 139 destinations, out of which 97 will be domestic and 42 international.
IndiGo has certainly placed a huge vote of confidence in the future of international travel by increasing its order of Airbus A350-900 aircraft from 30 to 60.
The carrier also made some very strong global alliances through the expansion of the codeshare agreements, which also played a part in connecting the airlines to more destinations in Europe, the US, and Asia.
In 2025, the airline had a capacity of more than 2,200 flights daily, and at the same time, it was the most punctual airline during the year and that was recognized with the Best Airline award in India and South Asia at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.
As IndiGo embarks on 2026, it will not only expand but will also be centered on safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction, thus helping the nation take flight.
