IndiGo back on track for holiday rush? Airline says it’s ready to fly over one million passengers every three days

IndiGo says its operations have stabilised after fog-related disruptions and that it is now flying over 1 million passengers every three days with more than 2,100 daily flights. The airline is gearing up for the holiday rush and will launch direct Delhi and Mumbai–Athens services from January 23, 2026, with the induction of Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

As the year-end travel rush gathers pace, IndiGo has said its operations have fully stabilised after weeks of weather-led disruption, and that it is now carrying more than one million passengers every three days while running over 2,100 flights daily across its network.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the country’s largest airline said it is ready to handle the festive and holiday surge, after dense fog in northern India had tested the aviation sector earlier this month.

IndiGo said its network has been stable since December 9, following industry-wide delays caused by heavy fog, especially across north Indian airports. Like other carriers, the airline faced knock-on effects on schedules and turnaround times, but claimed that its teams managed operations “effectively under the circumstances”.

With forecasts pointing to a harsher winter ahead, IndiGo said it has strengthened its operational readiness to minimise inconvenience for passengers and maintain its on-time performance standards.

Over 2,100 flights a day, 138 destinations covered

According to the airline, it is currently operating between 2,100 and 2,200 flights every day, connecting all 138 destinations on its domestic and international network. At this scale, IndiGo is flying more than one million customers every three days, underlining the rebound in demand as travel peaks during the holiday season. The airline said it has been steadily adding capacity within government guidelines and is confident of meeting the surge in bookings over the coming weeks.

Ready for the holiday travel rush

With Christmas and New Year travel traditionally putting pressure on airlines, IndiGo said it is “fully prepared” to cater to higher loads while keeping reliability at the centre of its operations. The carrier thanked passengers for their patience during recent disruptions and said it remains focused on delivering a smooth travel experience despite weather challenges.

Looking ahead, IndiGo also flagged a major milestone for Indian aviation - the induction of the country’s first Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The new jet is expected to redefine medium- to long-haul flying for travellers in India and the region.

As announced earlier, IndiGo will start direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Athens from January 23, 2026, using the new aircraft. The airline said it is also evaluating more domestic and international destinations in line with its fleet expansion plans, with further updates to follow.

Reiterating its broader mission, IndiGo said it remains committed to “giving wings to the nation” by strengthening connectivity within India and to key global destinations. At a time when passengers are wary after weeks of delays and cancellations across the sector, the airline’s claim of restored stability is likely to bring some reassurance as millions plan their holiday journeys.
