Air India and Air India Express have clarified that economy class fares on non-stop domestic flights from December 4 have already been capped, to prevent the usual system of fare hike based on demand and supply.
The airline, through an X post, said, "Air India &amp; Air India Express clarify that, since December 4, economy class airfares on non-stop domestic flights have been proactively capped to prevent the usual demand-and-supply mechanism being applied by revenue management systems."
The airline says some screenshots appearing on social media show higher prices for one-stop or two-stop flights or for combined economy + premium economy/business class tickets.
The airline further emphasised that it is technically not possible to impose fare caps on all such potential ticket combinations. However, Air India has stated that it is in discussions with third-party booking platforms to monitor them as well.
"We are aware of screenshots of last-minute itineraries with one-stop or two-stop flights or a combination of economy and premium economy or business cabins taken from third-party platforms. It is not technically possible to cap all such permutations, but we are engaging such platforms to exercise oversight."
According to an Air India spokesperson, Air India and Air India Express are trying to increase additional flight capacity to ensure that passengers and their luggage reach their destinations as quickly as possible.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation, on Saturday, issued a set of strict official directives to all Indian airlines, mandating immediate compliance with fare regulations and passenger-centric rules as flight disruptions continue across the sector. 
According to the directive, airlines cannot charge passengers beyond the specified maximum fares: Rs 7,500 for distances up to 500 km, Rs 12,000 for 500–1000 km, Rs 15,000 for 1000–1500 km, and Rs 18,000 for distances above 1500 km.

<h2>Ixigo to refund for IndiGo flight cancellations</h2>
Meanwhile, the travel booking platform ixigo has announced that it will refund the full convenience fees and assured fees for customers whose IndiGo flights were cancelled by the airline between December 3 to 8, 2025. 
The company said it understands the stress caused by flight disruptions and is extending support to inconvenienced passengers during this period.
Ixigo has said that their group will work steadily for affected travellers to get prompt refunds and help with alternate bookings. The measure is meant to provide some relief to the passengers who have to face difficulties caused by sudden cancellations.
"We understand how stressful flight disruptions can be...ixigo will refund full convenience fees and assured fees for all IndiGo customers whose flights are cancelled by the airline between December 3 and 8," ixigo said in its message, assuring users of prompt refund support.
