Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) is set to launch a luxury electric vehicle (EV) brand, Avinya (meaning innovation), next year. The Tata group PV maker will develop the luxury EV range jointly with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Chery Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR). While Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is a subsidiary of Tata Motors, Chery Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR) is a joint venture between Chinese auto maker Chery and JLR.
The first Avinya EV will be based on CJLR's Freelander platform and will be produced in TMPV's JLR factory located in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.
Tata Motors PV told Zee Business that Avinya is being developed as a global premium brand for a next-generation EV portfolio to be built on multiple, scalable platforms and architectures while being anchored in Tata Motors’ design, engineering and integration capabilities.
"Our collaboration with JLR and its partners will be an important pillar of our global premium EV journey as we expand the Avinya portfolio across segments and geographies. This integrated approach draws on best-in-class Tata Motors PV Group ecosystem expertise and partnerships for delivering the desired proposition for the luxury EV segment at scale," said Tata Motors PV.
The first Avinya vehicle, noted the carmaker, will bring together holistic new age advancements and robust engineering foundations to deliver a compelling luxury EV experience for Avinya.
It also said that Avinya’s design and development will harness the global strength of the Tata Motors PV Group ecosystem with production in the country, reinforcing its commitment to building competitive domestic capabilities alongside globally benchmarked vehicles.
The Tata group auto giant first unveiled the Avinya concept at the Auto Expo in 2022.
The Avinya range is expected to be built on multiple, scalable platforms and architectures while being anchored in Tata Motors’ design, engineering and integration capabilities. The homegrown auto maker is expected to bring the Sierra EV and Punch EV to market under its planned foray into the premium EV space.
The Tata group is develping Avinya as a global premium brand for its next-generation EV portfolio.
Tata dominates with a three-fourth share in the country's increasingly-competitive EV market.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles -- part of the Tata group -- offers several electric models in the country, including Tiago EV (hatchback), Tigor EV (sedan), Punch EV (micro-SUV) and Nexon EV (compact SUV) and Harrier EV (mid-size SUV).
