Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and OpenAI on Thursday announced a strategic partnership to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and expand enterprise AI adoption.
As part of the agreement, TCS’ HyperVault unit will build AI infrastructure in India with an initial capacity of 100 megawatt (MW). This capacity can be expanded to 1 gigawatt (GW) over time. The infrastructure will support large AI computing needs of companies and help both Indian and global firms use AI tools more efficiently.
The plan includes building secure data centres designed for AI computing and high-performance workloads. OpenAI is also planning to open offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru as part of its expansion in India.
The companies said this collaboration will help accelerate AI development and adoption.
TCS’ HyperVault unit and OpenAI have agreed to develop AI infrastructure in India under a multi-year agreement.
In the initial phase, TCS will develop AI infrastructure with 100 megawatt (MW) capacity. The company has the option to scale this capacity up to 1 gigawatt (GW) over time.
This infrastructure will support next-generation AI workloads and large-scale computing needs. It will include secure, purpose-built, liquid-cooled data centres with high rack density and global network connectivity.
TCS established HyperVault in 2025 to deliver gigawatt-scale, secure, and reliable AI-ready infrastructure for hyperscalers and AI-driven organisations.
Several thousand Tata Group employees will get access to Enterprise ChatGPT. The companies said this will accelerate innovation and improve productivity across Tata Group businesses.
TCS will also use OpenAI’s Codex to improve software engineering outcomes and development efficiency.
OpenAI and TCS will jointly develop industry-specific Agentic AI solutions. OpenAI will provide advanced AI platforms, while TCS will contribute its industry knowledge and AI expertise.
TCS and OpenAI will also work together on joint go-to-market initiatives. TCS will help Indian and global enterprises deploy, integrate, and scale OpenAI’s AI platforms.
OpenAI plans India expansion; focus on AI skill development
OpenAI is planning to open offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru as part of its India expansion.
The OpenAI Foundation and TCS will also collaborate to provide AI training and resources to Indian youth. The companies will develop technology toolkits and launch initiatives to improve livelihoods of at least one million youth.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said India is leading in AI adoption and has strong talent and ecosystem support. He said the partnership will help build infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships to expand AI access.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, said the collaboration marks a major milestone in India’s ambition to become a global AI leader. He said the partnership will help build advanced AI infrastructure and transform industries.
