Global technology and e-commerce company Amazon plans to invest a total of $48 billion in India between 2026 and 2030. The company's CEO Andy Jassy made this announcement during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday, June 25.
The announcement includes an additional $13 billion investment to expand and support artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure in India by 2030. With this commitment, Amazon's planned investment in AI and cloud infrastructure alone will exceed $21 billion during the 2026-2030 period, making it one of the largest global investors in the sector in India.
According to the company, the investment will be used to expand Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The expanded infrastructure is expected to provide startups, enterprises and government organisations with access to AI technologies, cloud services, developer tools and computing resources.
The latest announcement comes less than six months after Amazon disclosed $35 billion in new investments for India. With the fresh commitments, Amazon's cumulative investments in the country between 2010 and 2030 are set to cross $88 billion.
Following his meeting with PM Modi, Jassy highlighted India's growing importance in Amazon's global business. He said the company has witnessed strong growth in the country, particularly across its e-commerce, AI and cloud businesses.
"We came to India over a decade ago and have since been serving customers, sellers, developers, start-ups and enterprises through our different businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses," Jassy said.
"As we grow Amazon in India, our business priorities continue to align with India’s priorities of democratizing access to AI, digitizing small businesses, creating jobs, and enabling exports. We are investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help the country achieve these priorities," he further said.
He added that Amazon's priorities in India continue to align with the country's focus on digitisation, job creation, exports and wider access to AI technologies.
"We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and we are committed to being a long-term partner in India’s growth story," he added.
As part of its expansion plans, Amazon said it will continue investing in its operations network that supports both its e-commerce and quick commerce businesses.
The company plans to open more than 20 new fulfilment centres and over 100 last-mile delivery stations across India this year, with a focus on improving delivery speeds and reliability, particularly in tier-3 and tier-4 cities. Amazon said the expanded network will help offer deliveries in minutes, hours and by the next day across the country.
Amazon also announced the launch of 'Sammaan', a welfare programme aimed at supporting delivery associates across its logistics network.
The initiative includes scholarships for associates' children, assistance in accessing government welfare and financial inclusion schemes, insurance coverage, road safety measures and the expansion of Ashray rest centres to 250 locations this year. The rest centres will be accessible to delivery associates across the industry.
The company said a portion of its previously announced $300 million investment in operations and associate well-being will be used to strengthen and scale the programme.
Amazon outlined several targets aligned with government priorities for the end of the decade. By 2030, the company aims to support over 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, extend AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and provide AI education to 4 million government school students.
Since entering India, Amazon said it has digitised 12 million small businesses, enabled more than $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, supported 2.8 million jobs and trained over 10 million Indians in cloud skills.
The company stated that it remains committed to expanding its presence across India while continuing to invest in technology infrastructure, exports, digital adoption and employment generation.
