Notification on E20

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has issued a notification saying that it has approved blending of 20 per cent ethanol with 80 per cent gasoline. The Ministry has also issued mass emission standard for the same. 

The target of 20 per cent ethanol blending is to be achieved by 2025. The earlier target to achieve this was till 2030. Source: PTI

The Ministry has said that E20 fuel is good for the environment. This is because the blended fuel will have a lesser amount of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. One of the biggest benefits will be that the import of fuel will come down. This means that country’s reliance of crude oil import will come down.  The country is currently meeting 83 per cent of its requirements through the imports.
