The Sierra SUV, Tata Motors' production-spec version, has been officially unveiled and is set to be launched on November 25. The SUV brings back memories from the past and at the same time is equipped with modern technology and very comfortable.
The new Sierra is tall and boxy like the 1990s model but adds some new features. The most important of these are large glass panels and blacked-out pillars that create an Alpine-like effect, a flat bonnet with thick black accents, and LED headlamps that are part of a blacked-out panel together with a sleek LED light bar, and a gloss-black lower bumper with a faux skid plate.
The SUV has flush-fitting door handles, 19-inch alloy wheels, and black plastic cladding around the wheel arches. At the back, the LED light bar, which is very thin and spans the entire width, an erect boot, a spoiler, and a glossy black bumper with a skid plate are all features.
Inside, the Sierra offers a triple-screen dashboard setup, including an instrument cluster for the driver, a central infotainment system, and a passenger-facing display. The cabin also features a four-spoke steering wheel from the Tata Curvv, a gear lever from the Nexon, a panoramic sunroof extending to the C-pillar, and dual-tone seats accommodating five passengers with adjustable headrests and three-point seatbelts.
The SUV comes loaded with premium features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, rear sunshades, a 360-degree camera, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Tata will offer the Sierra with both petrol and diesel engines: a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing 170 hp and 280 Nm with manual and automatic transmissions, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel producing 118 hp and 260 Nm, the same unit used in the Curvv and Nexon. The SUV is expected to be priced from Rs 17 lakh for the base variant to Rs 22 lakh for the top-end variant, ex-showroom.
