In a remarkable achievement for vehicle safety, Tata Motors has been honored with the Global NCAP Safer Choice Award for its Tata Safari and Harrier models. This esteemed accolade, presented by Global NCAP, is reserved for automakers who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the highest safety standards for cars sold in India. Last year, both the Tata Safari and Harrier earned a five-star rating from Global NCAP for adult and child occupant protection, achieving the top scores in the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign.
Since then, Tata Motors has subjected the Safari and Harrier to additional Safer Choice conformity tests. Both models have successfully met the rigorous performance and volume requirements for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), speed assistance, and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) systems.
Global NCAP's Safer Choice Award, introduced in 2018 and recently updated in August 2024, is granted to car models that meet several stringent criteria:
- Five-star Global NCAP rating for adult occupant protection.
- Five-star Global NCAP rating for child occupant protection.
- Implementation of a speed assistance system with a full score in Global NCAP’s test criteria.
- Availability of AEB (car-to-car and vulnerable road user) that meets UN regulatory performance standards.
- Provision of BSD as a stand-alone option, meeting Global NCAP’s performance requirements.
David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised Tata Motors’ dedication to vehicle safety, highlighting the company’s significant contribution to improving protection for both occupants and vulnerable road users. Mohan Savarkar, Vice President and Chief Product Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, expressed pride in receiving the award and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety and innovation. He emphasized that Tata Motors’ entire SUV lineup now boasts a complete five-star rating, setting a new benchmark for the Indian automotive industry and prioritizing safety for Indian car buyers.
