Tata Motors is all set to launch the petrol versions of its two popular SUVs — the Harrier and the Safari — in India within the next two weeks, according to sources. The models are expected to be powered by a new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, marking a significant addition to the lineup that has so far been offered only with diesel powertrains.

Along with the new engine, Tata is also likely to offer an automatic gearbox option in the SUVs.

Apart from the change under the hood, both SUVs will remain largely identical to their diesel counterparts. Tata is not expected to make any cosmetic updates or feature changes with the introduction of the petrol variants.
