Eicher Motors-owned Royal Enfield will recall 236,966 motorcycles across some models due to defects in the ignition coil that can cause misfiring and reduce the vehicle`s performance, a Reuters report said.

Eicher Motors shares were trading at Rs 2560 on the NSE at 3:17 pm on Wednesday, down by almost 0.4 per cent from the previous closing price on Tuesday.

The company recently announced its decision to temporarily halt production operations at its manufacturing facilities in Chennai. Royal Enfield’s manufacturing operations are across Thiruvottiyur, Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal which were shut between 13 May 2021 and Sunday, 16 May 2021 (Thursday-Sunday).

The decision was taken in light of “unprecedented situation owing to the spread of COVID-19 and with an objective to prioritize safety and well-being of its personnel,” the company had said in the filing.

“Given local lockdowns across states and Union Territories impacting retail operations, the

company does not foresee any significant impact on ability to cater to demand,” the company had said.

The company currently manufactures Interceptor, Continental GT, Meteor, Himalayan, Bullet and Classic.
