Motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield, a subsidiary of Eicher Motors, on Friday rolled out a new avatar of the Himalayan -- Himalayan Mana Black Edition -- at Rs 3.37 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Himalayan is Royal Enfield's adventure touring lineup of motorcycles designed to offer versatility on varied terrains. Equipped with both on-road and off-road capabilities, the Himalayan entered the domestic two-wheeler space in 2016 after the auto maker revealed the concept in 2015.
The launch of the Himalayan marked a distinct departure from Royal Enfield's traditional models. The motorcycle initially sported a 411cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, long-stroke engine with electronic fuel injection and 5-speed transmission.
The Himalayan lineup got a significant facelift in 2021, along with a few other cosmetic upgrades, and a newer 452 cc engine and a 6-speed gearbox in a mechanical revamp in 2023.
The all-new avatar of the RE Himalayan rivals the likes of adventure and dual-sport motorcycles including the KTM 390 Adventure, the Honda NX500 and BMW G 310 GS.
All in all, the Himalayan is Royal Enfield’s answer to the mid-capacity adventure segment, offering a purpose-built design that, according to the motorcycle maker, excels in rugged terrains.
Here's a summary of key features of the Himalayan, according to the Royal Enfield portal:
This month, Royal Enfield parent Eicher Motors registered a 24 per cent year-on-year jump in its consolidated net profit to Rs 1,369 crore for the quarter ended September 30, aided by robust performance across businesses.
Its top line grew 45 per cent to Rs 6,172 crore, with Royal Enfield scaling record quarterly sales of 3,27,067 units. The quarterly sales were up 45 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
On Friday, the Eicher Motors stock gained 0.1 per cent to close at Rs 7,134 apiece on BSE.
Eicher Motors shares have risen 46 per cent so far this year, sharply outperforming the Nifty50 and Nifty Auto indices' gains of 9.8 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively.
