Mahindra launches Thar ROXX STAR Edition in India–Check price & what's new

Mahindra & Mahindra has come up with a new variant to its Thar ROXX lineup with the launch of the Thar ROXX STAR Edition in India. Priced at an introductory Rs 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom), this version is positioned as a more premium offering. It focuses mainly on visual and styling upgrades, while the engine and mechanical setup remain the same as the regular Thar ROXX.

The STAR EDN appeals to customers who desire a more elite and luxurious SUV experience according to Mahindra. The special edition follows the brand’s broader strategy of rolling out visually distinctive variants, similar to past launches such as the Ebony and Black Editions.

The Thar ROXX STAR EDN stands out because its exterior design elements and its interior design elements all showcase a black color theme. The SUV showcases its special-edition design through three main visual elements which include its piano-black front grille and R19 piano-black alloy wheels and discreet STAR EDN rear badging.

The SUV is offered in four exterior colours—Citrine Yellow, Tango Red, Everest White, and Stealth Black. The vehicle maintains its original body design but the darkened elements create an aggressive premium appearance that surpasses the standard model.

The Thar ROXX STAR EDN cabin maintains its dark design through black leatherette upholstery and suede inserts and a black dashboard and premium interior trims. Mahindra used lighter elements through a beige roof liner and specific door panel parts to create a subtle two-tone design that appears throughout the interior space.

The special edition delivers an extensive range of front ventilated seats and sliding armrests and 60:40 split rear seats with multi-point recline and automatic climate control and electrically foldable ORVMs. The tech package consists of a 26.03 cm touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster and Adrenox connected car technology that features built-in Alexa.

Safety and technology remain comprehensive

On the safety front, the Thar ROXX STAR EDN is engineered for a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and comes equipped with six airbags, TPMS, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and auto-dimming IRVM. Additional safety features include E-call and SOS, impact-sensing auto door unlock, and an immobiliser.

The SUV also gets a nine-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, tyre direction monitoring, and a panoramic Skyroof sunroof.

No mechanical changes under the hood

Mechanically, the STAR EDN remains unchanged. It continues to offer the 2.0-litre TGDi mStallion petrol engine, producing 130 kW and 380 Nm, and the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, delivering 128.6 kW and 400 Nm. Both engines are paired with either manual or automatic transmissions, depending on the variant. All versions of the Thar ROXX STAR EDN are available exclusively with a rear-wheel-drive layout, mounted on Mahindra’s M_GLYDE body-on-frame platform, along with XPLOR terrain modes and a brake-locking differential.

Variants and pricing

The Thar ROXX STAR EDN is offered at introductory ex-showroom prices starting at Rs 16.85 lakh. The D22 diesel MT variant is priced at Rs 16.85 lakh, while the D22 diesel AT costs Rs 18.35 lakh. On the petrol side, the G20 TGDi AT is priced at Rs 17.85 lakh, with no manual petrol option on offer.
