Mumbai: The Maharashtra Transport Department has taken action against Ola Electric Mobility Limited for alleged violations related to trade certificates. The enforcement was based on a complaint filed by Pritpal Singh and Associates.
According to Section 39 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and Rule 33 of the Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, it is mandatory to obtain a trade certificate for the sale and registration of vehicles. The authorities found that Ola Electric was engaged in vehicle sales without the necessary certification, a punishable offense under the law.
As part of the operation, inspections were conducted at multiple locations across Maharashtra, including Mumbai East, Mumbai West, Mumbai Central, and Borivali. The two-day crackdown led to action against 11 dealers, and 20 vehicles were seized. However, no penalties have been imposed so far, and only documents and vehicles have been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has also taken note of continuous complaints against Ola Electric. According to sources, the ministry has sought a report from the company over alleged data mismatches. This development comes after Zee Business reported the regulatory action taken by the Maharashtra Transport Commissioner. Similar action could be initiated in other states, including Madhya Pradesh, in the coming days.
Ola Electric has yet to respond to Zee Business’s inquiries via email or WhatsApp regarding the issue.
