Kia Carens Clavis EV unveiled; India's first mass-market 7-seater electric car promises 490km range

Kia India has officially revealed the Carens Clavis EV, its first mass-market electric vehicle and the country’s first mass-market seven-seater electric MPV. Set for launch on July 15, this new model marks a bold entry in India’s emerging electric MPV space, aiming to rival the likes of the BYD e6 and upcoming eMax 7.

The Carens Clavis EV retains the silhouette of its ICE sibling but carries EV-specific styling cues such as a sealed grille, revised bumpers, new alloy wheels, and an integrated charging port at the front. Design inspiration comes from the Kia EV5, with details like low-mounted fog lamps and a cleaner front fascia setting it apart from its petrol and diesel counterparts.

Inside, Kia continues its tech-savvy theme with twin 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, while adding thoughtful EV-oriented updates. The gear lever is replaced by extra storage, and new interior colour themes enhance visual appeal.

KIA Carens Clavis EV: Safety

In terms of safety, the Carens Clavis EV is expected to offer six airbags, ESC, VSM, all-wheel disc brakes, traction control, and hill-start assist as standard. Kia is also likely to introduce Level 2 ADAS features on top trims, aligning with the ICE version’s 20-feature autonomous suite.

Powering the EV will be two battery pack options—a 42 kWh and a 51.4 kWh unit—both likely shared with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The larger pack is claimed to deliver a certified range of up to 490km, positioning the Clavis EV as one of the most practical family EVs in the segment.

Full pricing and specifications will be announced at launch on July 15, but the Carens Clavis EV is already generating buzz as a value-rich electric alternative in India’s growing EV market.
