According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), October 2025 has been registered as the month of the highest-ever auto retail sales in the country, which indicates the adoption of GST 2.0 reforms and the rural market revival as the main drivers of the demand momentum.

The overall retail vehicle sales saw a rise of 40.5 percent year-on-year (YoY), prominently backed by the record achievements in the leading sectors, namely—two-wheelers up by 51.8 percent (31.5 lakh units), passenger cars up by 11.4 percent (5.57 lakh units), commercial vehicles up by 17.7 percent, and tractors up by 14.2 percent while construction equipment saw a significant decline of 30.5 percent.

Reflecting on October 2025 Auto Retail performance, FADA President C S Vigneshwar said, "October 2025 will be remembered as a landmark month for India’s auto retail, where reforms, festivities, and rural resurgence came together to deliver record-breaking results. Overall, retail sales grew by a robust 40.5 per cent YoY, as both passenger vehicles and two-wheelers achieved lifetime highs, signalling renewed consumer confidence and strong economic undercurrents."

The rural markets in India outstrip the urban ones by a big margin, as indicated by the growth rates of 3 times and 2 times faster for PV and 2W sales, respectively. The Indian market recovery is also attributed to the suppressed demand in September, as the overlapping of GST 2.0 rate cuts, Dussehra, and Diwali facilitated the buying of—especially for entry-level two-wheelers and small cars—causing first-time buyers.

'GST 2.0 proved transformational': FADA

"The introduction of GST 2.0 proved transformational — lowering small-car GST rates made vehicle ownership more attainable, especially for the cost-sensitive first-time buyer. This affordability boost, timed perfectly with the festive season, turned sentiment into action," FADA added.

The rural area industry sentiment was further buoyed by good rainfall, good farm incomes, and public works spending, which led to the highest number of inquiries ever and higher sales conversion rates, while the PV stock level decreased by 5-7 days to 53-55 days.

The 42-day festive period (Dussehra–Diwali) saw a 21 per cent YoY rise in total auto retail sales thus breaking the old festive record, the sales being segment-wise: two-wheelers 22 per cent, passenger cars 23 per cent, commercial vehicles 15 percent, tractors 14 per cent, and three-wheelers 9 per cent, with a 24 per cent decline in construction equipment.

FADA envisioned this as a 'Viksit Bharat moment', which signified the simultaneous occurrence of the policy reforms, festive mood, and rural revival.

FADA's future outlook

In the future, the perspective stays bright: GST 2.0 is predicted to be the major partner of the 'simpler tax, stronger growth' vision along the way to maintaining affordability. The things mentioned above and some others, like marriage season, harvest-related cash flows, and even new product launches, will help keep the momentum going until the end of the year.

The mood among the dealers is good as they already got 64 per cent of them expecting sales in November and another 70 per cent forecasting sales growth until January, thus the Indian auto retail sector shows measured optimism as it enters 2026 with a good demand base and strong confidence.
