Rural forcing demand drives a boost

  • The two-wheeler market experienced sales growth in both urban and rural areas, which showed different increases for each market
  • Urban areas experienced a 28.96 per cent increase in two-wheeler sales, while rural areas experienced a 22.16 per cent increase
  • The increased agricultural earnings, together with enhanced rural cash flow conditions, enabled people to buy vehicles
  • This trend created higher demand for both small cars and entry-level vehicles

Demand drivers in the market

The February auto retail sales growth experienced a strong expansion because of multiple factors that created an economic boom. The GST 2.0 reforms made buyer products more affordable by creating better access to goods. Also, the marriage season brought increased vehicle purchases as people needed cars for their wedding celebrations.

The introduction of new products, together with their marketing campaigns by car manufacturers, drove customer demand for their products. The ongoing infrastructure development activities, together with freight transportation needs, created a higher demand for commercial vehicles in the market. The growth of e-commerce logistics operations resulted in businesses needing to expand their delivery vehicle fleets.

Inventory and supply situation

The number of motor vehicles in the passenger car group improved this month.

  • The inventory levels decreased to 27–29 days, which brought them closer to the recommended 21-day benchmark.
  • The evidence shows that the auto market now better matches wholesale supply with retail demand.
