India's automobile retail market achieved its highest sales performance in February 2026, with multiple vehicle categories achieving their successful February sales results. According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total vehicle retail sales reached 24.09 lakh units, reflecting a 25.62 year-on-year growth. The strong growth was supported by consumers' trust, higher rural demand and government assistance following the GST 2.0 implementation. The auto sector recorded strong growth in February despite being the shortest month, as demand increased across vehicle segments nationwide.
Overall Retail Growth:
Vehicle segment | Units sold (Feb 2026) | YoY growth |
Two-wheelers | 17,00,505 | +25.02% |
Passenger vehicles | 3,94,768 | +26.12% |
Commercial vehicles | 1,00,820 | +28.89% |
Three-Wheelers | 1,17,130 | +24.39% |
Tractors | 89,418 | +36.35% |
Construction Equipment | 6,721 | -1.22% |
The fastest-growing segment was represented by tractors since construction equipment experienced a slight setback during the month.
One major growth driver for vehicles demand was increased demands from rural markets.
The February auto retail sales growth experienced a strong expansion because of multiple factors that created an economic boom. The GST 2.0 reforms made buyer products more affordable by creating better access to goods. Also, the marriage season brought increased vehicle purchases as people needed cars for their wedding celebrations.
The introduction of new products, together with their marketing campaigns by car manufacturers, drove customer demand for their products. The ongoing infrastructure development activities, together with freight transportation needs, created a higher demand for commercial vehicles in the market. The growth of e-commerce logistics operations resulted in businesses needing to expand their delivery vehicle fleets.
The number of motor vehicles in the passenger car group improved this month.
