Trade will remain the main engine of growth for the global economy but needs to evolve in line with emerging technologies, business and policy innovation, UNCTAD Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi said here today.

He said the export-led growth strategy will yield results only when the surpluses generated from such growth are deployed for public good.

He was addressing a conference on 'Globalisation and its Challenges to the Trade and Development Agenda'.

Kituyi observed that UNCTAD was promoting policies to create conducive and stable ecosystem for economic growth and sustainable development.

He said the international markets need to be open and ensure that trade delivers.
