The International Sugar Organization (ISO) said on Thursday it expects India`s sugar output to rise by about 22 percent to 25 million tonnes in the year beginning October, and the world`s biggest consumer of the sweetener could export the commodity in 2018/19.
China is expected to import 6.1 million tonnes - 6.3 million tonnes of sugar in 2017/18, compared with 6 million tonnes a year ago, Jose Orive, executive director of the ISO, told reporters on Thursday.
He said China will release 1.5 million tonnes of sugar from its state reserves in 2017/18, compared with 1.25 million tonnes a year ago.
