RBI direct banks to maintain CCTV footage post demonetisation announcement
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday stated that in order to facilitate identification of people abetting circulation of counterfeit notes, banks are directed to preserve CCTV footage since the announcement of denometisation.
It advised the banks to cover the banking hall/area and counters under CCTV surveillance and recording.
Further, it has said, "the banks are advised to preserve CCTV recordings of operations at bank branches and currency chests for the period from November 08 to December 30, 2016, until further instructions, to facilitate coordinated and effective action by the enforcement agencies in dealing with matters relating to illegal accumulation of new currency notes."
Presently, the Central Bureau Investigation, Directorater of Enforcement and Investigation directorate of Income Tax Department have been carrying an intensive investigation in regards to curb black money.
Recently, a senior RBI official K Micheal has been arrested for his involvement in seizure of Rs 5.70 crore of new currency in Bengaluru.
