Kaala box office collection: Initial bookings were not very kind, but hope still floats for superstar Rajinikanth. A powerful weekend for Rajinikanth film may well be in store. Worries have been expressed due to Rajinikanth entering politics and then making comments on Cauvery river issue that have caused a severe backlash.
However, politics and profession are different worlds altogether and things are expected to get much better. The film released today, which is a working day and as the weekend draws near, the amounts earned on Thursday and Friday may just end up being the cherry on top of the cake!
One blow was the fact that critics have not been very pleased with this Pa Ranjith film. However, critics will take a backseat to the most powerful tool of them all and that is word of mouth boost. If the viewers are happy with the fare, then there will be big benefits to be drawn by Rajinikanth. And this is the thing that may well ensure Rajinikanth magic in full force.
Also, simply put, Rajinikanth has millions of fans and on this strength alone the film will be a blockbuster. And the fact that even till noon on Thursday, some of the online portals showed that tickets were available, should not be paid too much attention as this was a week day.
The momentum is building behind the movie and the talk about Kaala crossing the Rs 100 cr mark has already started. However, on current trends that would be easily achievable as day 1 projection was Rs 30 cr by LiveMint. Kaala will be chasing the other 2 Rajinikanth movies' box office collections though as a measure of success. These are Kabali (Rs 600 crore worldwide) and Enthiran (Rs 290 crore).

So, while talking about success of the movie, is the content up to scratch. Kaala is a dark story that is all about Tamils rising and slums of Dharavi. The imprint is very much harking back to times long gone.
Considering Rajinikanth has such a larger than life image, there had to be a first inked by the supertsar this time too. Yes, it did create history! And that came in the form of the film becoming the the first Indian film to release in Saudi Arabia in the wake of the country lifting the ban on public viewing of cinema.
