IRCTC TDR filing of RAC tickets timing slashed by Indian Railways; all details about big relief here
IRCTC TDR filing of RAC tickets: A Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) is technically a train ticket with confirmed seat but wait listed berth.
IRCTC TDR filing of RAC tickets: Indian Railways has brought in greater flexibility for train passengers with this move. It has made it possible for Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC) to relax the timing for ticket cancellation or TDR filing. On it's Twitter handle, the catering service provider launched a new teaser saying henceforth a passenger can cancel or file TDR for RAC tickets even up to 30 minutes before departure. Earlier this was allowed only four hours before departure from boarding station.
A Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) is technically a train ticket with confirmed seat but wait listed berth. This means, if your train ticket shows RAC as its status (with an RAC status number), you can board the train and occupy the seat allowed, instead of a sleeping berth at night.

No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. For contingent cancellation and waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations, charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules. Partial cancellation of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed .
If the train is marked as "CANCELLED" in PRS due to breaches, floods, accidents etc. full refund is permissible in case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train. In case of e-tickets, such cancellations can be done by the customer through Internet.
IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned Railways.
