Benchmark Nifty witnessed lacklustre
trading for the second straight day today as investors awaited
the US Federal Reserve's policy decision for further cues.
The 50-share index, after shuttling between 10,171.05 and
10,134.20, ended the day lower by 6.40 points or 0.06 per cent
at 10,141.15.
The broader indices witnessed some profit booking, with
the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices slipping 0.23 per cent
and 0.45 per cent, respectively.
The sectoral chart showed the losers outnumbering the
gainers. Only PSU Bank, Pharma and FMCG indices managed to eke
out gains, advancing 1 per cent, 0.28 per cent and 0.20 per
cent, respectively.
Among the losers, Auto, Realty and Private Bank indices
slipped the most, losing 0.60 per cent, 0.53 per cent, and
0.48 per cent, respectively.
Index losers included BPCL, Hero Motoco, Tata Motors and
Sun Pharma.
However, Dr Reddy's, Bank of Baroda, Tata Steel, ITC and
ONGC ended with gains.
On the NSE, 798 stocks advanced, compared with 897
declining and 67 remaining unchanged.
Total securities that hit their price bands were 137.
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 29,142.83 crore
from Rs 28,638.18 crore yesterday.
A total of 15,495.26 lakh shares changed hands in
10,228,115 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms
on the NSE stood at Rs 1,34,93,144 crore.
